Having won the toss and elected to field, Devizes made an excellent start with the ball, reducing Swindon to 5-2 inside the opening two overs. Ben McGowan struck early, while sharp fielding saw Harry Scurr involved in a run out to put the home side immediately under pressure.

Swindon continued to lose wickets regularly throughout the innings thanks to a disciplined Devizes bowling performance. McGowan was outstanding, finishing with 3-16 from 9 overs, while Sam Helps matched him with 3-11 from just 6.1 overs in an economical spell that ripped through the middle and lower order. George Dunford also chipped in with 2-26 as Devizes kept Swindon in check.

Christopher Allen offered resistance with 23, while Dilshan Fernando provided late momentum with a quickfire 24 from 21 balls. A final-wicket partnership of 40 helped Swindon recover from 64-9 to post 104 all out from 31.1 overs.

Chasing 105, Devizes suffered the worst possible start when captain Daniel Pirie was dismissed from the opening ball of the innings. Ben McGowan quickly followed, leaving Devizes 5-2.

Harry Scurr and Adam Battison responded positively with a 28-run partnership to steady the innings. Battison struck an aggressive 17 from 16 deliveries, while Scurr scored with 13. Thomas Andrew also added a useful 15 during a brief lower-order recovery.

However, Swindon’s bowling attack proved too strong on the day. Niaz Shinwari caused major problems early on with 3 wickets, before Dilshan Fernando tore through the lower order with an excellent 5-wicket haul to bowl Devizes out for 66 in 22 overs.

Despite the defeat, Devizes can take positives from a strong bowling and fielding display which at one stage had Swindon reeling at 64-9. The side will now look to bounce back next weekend.
